PLO Wishes Israelis Happy Passover, Infuriating Palestinians

Some Palestinian leaders want normalization, while most Palestinians have sadly been raised on hatred

By |

A senior member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the ruling Fatah faction (and therefore of the Palestinian Authority) extended Passover greetings to Israelis on Sunday, sparking a wave of angry reactions by Palestinians.

Mohammed al-Madani is head of the Palestinian Committee for Interaction with Israeli Society, so it is his job to issue such statements.

But a growing number of Palestinians don’t want normalization and friendly relations with Israel, and so view al-Madani and his overtures as traitorous to the Palestinian cause.

Al-Madani came under similar fire last month when he led a Palestinian delegation on a condolence visit to the family of a senior Israeli general who had died in a plane crash.

In his Passover greeting, al-Madani wrote:

"Hearty greetings and congratulations to you for the holiday of freedom.

"May the Palestinian people also win freedom, and we would establish our state next to the State of Israel and peace would prevail in our region.

“They all said ‘Amen’. Happy Holiday.”
