While the Houthis bring a strategically important port city under their control and advance toward the Bab al-Mandab strait, Somaliland’s President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi tells Israel Today that his country believes an Israeli and American military presence on Somaliland’s territory would help deter threats and increase stability in the region.
The President of Somaliland has arrived for his first visit to Washington, where he will meet with representatives of the US State Department and members of Congress. Following the historic recognition of Somaliland by Israel, he is now also seeking recognition from the United States. In the interview, the President also stated that Somaliland is prepared to send up to 2,000 soldiers to the international stabilization force ISF in the Gaza Strip.
