I am deeply shocked by what happened at the Vuelta a España, one of the three major international cycling races in the world, on par with the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia. A sporting event meant to unite people and bring joy turned into a stage for political aggression. What was intended as a celebration of cycling ended in chaos. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators blocked the route, tore down barriers, attacked police officers, and ultimately forced the organizers to cancel the finale in Madrid. The final stage, the finish line, and the award ceremony—all fell victim to hatred.
The protests specifically targeted Israel’s participation in this race. The Israel–Premier Tech team was singled out and made a target. It was no longer about the sport but about Israel—a country that cannot even participate in a cycling race without being pursued by hostility and aggression.
