The United Nations General Assembly vote to recognize a Palestinian state, followed by official announcement to that effect by several major Western powers, was more than a political betrayal. It was an event with major prophetic ramifications, according to renowned Torah scholar and international lecturer Rabbi Mendel Kessin.

With this decision, “the United Nations is Gog and Magog,” stated Rabbi Kessin in a recorded reaction. “The UN represents the world, and therefore they must defy Israel.”

The world’s defiance of God’s will as represented by the recognition of a Palestinian state and the underlying effort to “overthrow Israel” is the beginning of the fulfillment of the Gog and Magog prophecy, argued Kessin.

“That is a messianic event. It means the Messiah is here. And what is interesting is that it also indicates that the year 5786 [the current Jewish year–תשפ״ו] is a messianic year. That means Messiah is coming. We are about to enter the messianic era,” he continued.

The rabbi went on to explain how by a process known as gematria (a numerical evaluation of scripture in an effort to decipher hidden meaning) the numerical value of year 5786 equals the numerical value of the 10 Plagues, which is tied to the theme of redemption.
