While Tehran keeps its finger on the trigger, the attention of nations is turning with growing irritation toward Jerusalem. In an absurd reversal of cause and effect, it is not the aggressor holding the world’s sea lanes hostage that is being cast as the villain, but Israel. The accusation is growing louder that Israel, through its actions against the Iranian regime, has triggered a global oil crisis. That pushes Israel onto the defensive internationally. The United States is also blamed, of course, but Jerusalem and Benjamin Netanyahu are already accused of having dragged Washington and Donald Trump into the war. Israel thus finds itself under crossfire, fighting not only Tehran’s missiles but also the narrative of an international community that places its economic convenience above the security interests of the Jewish state.
