Two weeks ago, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas appointed Mohammed Mustafa as the new prime minister of the Palestinian Authority after the previous prime minister, Mohammed Shtayyeh, had to resign at the end of February under pressure from Arab states and Washington. The new PA government presents itself as a technocratic government in which the ministers do not belong to any party, and eight ministers come from the Gaza Strip, including four women. On Sunday, the technocrat government was sworn in in Ramallah, and 22 of the 23 ministerial positions were filled. That sounds fantastic. Palestinian technocrats are now determining politics. These are supposedly people free of ideology and special interests who want to ensure the common good and stability.
But is is all just a show just to satisfy foreign media and governmental demands and thus have the Gaza Strip served up on a silver platter by Israel itself at the end of the current war against Hamas? After all, the new Minister of Religion has called Jews monkeys and pigs, and the new Minister for Women...
