It has come to light through unofficial reports that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have discovered between 50 to 70 tunnels beneath the Philadelphia Corridor along the border between Egypt and Rafah in the Gaza Strip. The ground operation in Rafah was not merely about eliminating the remaining Hamas terrorists, as initially portrayed in the media, but primarily focused on uncovering all underground terror and smuggling tunnels. Israel, however, could not announce this openly due to its diplomatic relations with Egypt, a key peace partner. It was crucial for Israel to ascertain the extent of Egypt’s deceit.
For several weeks, Israel has been operating in Rafah, near the Egyptian border, gaining complete control over the 12-kilometer border corridor. After successfully cutting off the Gaza Strip from the underground tunnels leading to Egypt, Israeli forces are now focusing on the remaining areas in Rafah. The IDF spokesperson has remained largely silent about the discovered tunnels.
