How long can you take security for granted while the world around you burns? And what happens when Europe suddenly realizes it is terrified of war—yet lacks the means to survive one?

Europe is once again genuinely afraid of a real war, but it is not prepared for it. “Europe trembles, Israel protects.” That sentence was said to me this weekend by a senior executive at Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest private defense company and a key supplier of land systems and UAVs to the IDF. One short sentence that sums up Europe’s geopolitical reality and Israel’s security significance in a single breath.

While generals sound the alarm, politicians warn, and intelligence chiefs speak of a “pre-war era,” a bitter truth emerges: the continent that spent decades settling into peace possesses neither the tools nor the mental fortitude to withstand a major conflict. And right now, when a clash with Russia is no longer a theoretical scenario, it is painfully obvious how disarmed, dependent, and security-spoiled Europe has become.
