
Israel has suffered several waves of high-profile corruption in recent years. It has become a national plague, as dangerous as the enemies of flesh and blood. The public has lost confidence in its elected representatives. Money and greed lead to temptation and politicians have fallen into the trap. Poll after poll has found that Israelis believe their political leadership is corrupt.
Most recently, of course, we have the indictment of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on multiple charges of fraud and breach of trust. Four years ago, in 2016, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert began serving a prison sentence after being convicted several years earlier of accepting hundreds of thousands of shekels in bribes in a real estate scandal in Jerusalem. In 2007, former President Moshe Katsav was forced to step down and then convicted of rape! He spent the next five years in prison.
