October 7 shook many certainties. Since then, many Israelis have been looking at their society with different eyes. This is not about distrust of Arab fellow citizens, but about an uncomfortable question that is rarely discussed publicly: How much integration strengthens the state, and at what point must we also talk about balance, resilience, and national responsibility?
Recently I came across a video on Instagram that had been recorded by a passenger on an intercity bus. The fully occupied bus was traveling from Jerusalem to Haifa. The video showed that the driver was continuously using his mobile phone. He made calls, browsed internet links, read and sent messages. The passengers asked him to stop, but he could not be dissuaded. Fortunately nothing happened, but several passengers subsequently filed complaints with the transport company.
