The power of humans united in building the tower of Babel was so remarkable God said, “At this rate, nothing they set out to accomplish will be impossible for them!” (Gen 11:6)
The power of humans becoming one in trusting Messiah is so strong that Yeshua prayed it would come about as a sign to the world (Jn 17).
As a father of several boisterous boys, one of my favorite verses is the epic Hebrew song, “Behold how good and how pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity.” (Psalm 133)
Why? Why is it so hard for siblings to take an hour long ride in the back seat without arguing over something, “just this once” – even with pep talks by mom and dad, not to mention bribes, promises and threats?
Why on November 1, 2022 was Israel forced to “celebrate” its 5th election in just 3-and-a-half years? The divide between right and left is deep, and voters for the pro-Bibi and anti-Bibi blocs nearly evenly split. For years neither side has...

The thing about salvation is that all the credit for it must go to God. He initiated and actioned it and mankind can take no credit for it. The religious folks assume that by wearing special robes they are privy to salvation. They set out certain criteria by which man can take credit that are often referred to as good works. The Lord made clear it’s impossible for men save themselves, Mark 10:27, and that good works don’t save you, Eph 2:8 -9.
Given what you say that mankind will be required to keep God’s laws during the millennium reign of Messiah it’s important that mankind should begin to learn to keep those commands today. If we look at Messiah’s command in John 14:15 we can undergo instruction on the right meaning of the command.
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14:15. Keep is samar in Hebrew and tereo in Greek, they both mean – watch over, guard, keep, preserve.
The religious folk translate keep as obey. This gives them control of the meaning that allows them to determine punishments for those who transgress. They make the Lord out to be a stern disciplinarian.
The commands of God are not overbearing when understood correctly.
“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.” 1 John 5:2-3
For instance, “thou shall not steal” is easily kept by not stealing. When we keep the command we are said to have hit the target and have not sinned. When we miss the target the distance we miss by is measured and that gives us some idea of how sinful we are. If we are missing it by a mile we just have to adjust our aim.
“Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. Ephesians 4:28
The targets the Lord is looking for us to keep hitting are those of living morally, keeping the temple of our body holy and keeping the appointed feasts. We can be much encouraged that the indwelling word and Spirit of God keep building and strengthening us to keep them.
When mankind have their focus on the Lord our fellowship encourages us in all these areas and we begin to experience the unity that makes us a better society. Despising our Maker, as Cain did, causes us to miss all these targets as we seek self satisfaction regardless of the cost to others.
If unity with one another means disunity with God, we really don’t have unity. We should live on earth “as it is in Heaven.”
