Covenants between states are intended to guarantee survival, strengthen strategic interests, promote development, and bring prosperity. On one hand, we are grateful for and proud of the alliance with the United States. But how should we view and assess the alliance with a superpower like the US in comparison to the covenants in the Bible? Of course, alliances between nations are important, but they are also complex and raise questions: Which partner adheres to which set of values? What interests motivate whom? Do unhealthy dependencies arise? A comparison between the alliance with the US and the covenants described in the Bible regarding the people of Israel can provide insights that we need in our time. Are we really as important to Donald Trump as we imagine? Or should we be more cautious? Trump supporters in the country almost view him as a savior.
