In a Zoom conference with Yotam Polizar, the CEO of IsraAid, a well-known Israeli humanitarian aid organization, he explained why the Hamas invasion of southern Israel was one of the worst humanitarian disasters he had ever dealt with: “There are 60,000 evacuated people in Eilat. The city doubled in size. This is a historic moment for IsraAid. We’ve worked in 62 countries, but never Israel. We sought to bring Israeli expertise to deal with disasters, but not until now did we deal with disasters at home. I have a close friend who was kidnapped. It was heart-breaking for all of us. I just came back from a kibbutz that lost a quarter of its members, who were killed, kidnapped or are missing. You cannot imagine the level of grief and anxiety.”
