Jerusalem was removed from the negotiating table, per Israeli demands. Now, it’s Israel’s turn to make a major concession. “If there’s ever going to be peace with the Palestinians, then this was a good thing to have done,” Trump. “In past negotiations, they never got past Jerusalem.” Trump added that he “now understands” why all of his predecessors had broken their promises and not relocated the US Embassy to Jerusalem, noting that he received “endless” phone calls from world leaders trying to persuade him against the move. “But I approved it, and it should have been done years ago,” he insisted.

American mediators have stressed several times in recent weeks that neither side will be fully satisfied with Trump’s peace plan for Israel and the Palestinians. If Jerusalem is no longer on the table and is now officially recognized, at least by the US, as Israel’s capital,...
