Lieutenant Colonel U. expresses his own experiences and feelings through caricatures and drawings. The war in the Gaza Strip provided him with ample opportunity to do so. One could call them a kind of war comics, expressing much that isn’t conveyed through other media. We were able to speak with U., but aren’t allowed to publish his name and picture because he’s still on duty. He didn’t have much time, and there aren’t photos of all his drawings because many were created on all sorts of surfaces. When his brigade commander became aware of the drawings, he asked U. to create a daily caricature for the brigade. This resulted in documentation of heroism and camaraderie. “Our brigade motto is to be ready anytime, anywhere, and for any mission. These aren’t empty words. We have reservists fighting who call each other ‘brother’ because they don’t know each other yet or can’t remember each other’s names. And yet, they risk their lives for each other without hesitation.”
