This family once had a significant religious influence on both the Jews in Morocco and the Jewish world in general.

With the establishment of the State of Israel and the return of the Jewish people to their land, many members of the Abuchatzeira family settled in the south of the country, particularly in the Negev desert. Some of them continue to serve as revered rabbis and community leaders to this day.

Rabbi Israel Abuchatzeira, known as Baba Sali, lived in the southern city of Netivot. Even during his lifetime, he was revered as a holy man who was said to have performed miracles and brought salvation to his followers. His personality and work made Netivot a religious center and a pilgrimage destination for believers from all over the country.

In the 1970s, it was reported that there was a Muslim family in Gaza City by the name of Abuchatzeira. It was also revealed that they were a large family that specialized in fishing and was said to have a connection to Judaism.
