The Kingdom of Bahrain announced yesterday that an Iranian drone attack had damaged a seawater desalination plant on its territory.

This is the first time since the start of the war that an Arab state has officially reported a targeted Iranian attack on a desalination plant. Despite the direct damage, the Bahraini water authority attempted to reassure the population, stating that the regular drinking water supply to citizens has not been affected so far.

The Iranian attack on the Bahraini desalination plant confronts us with an ancient, biblical truth: In the desert, water is not merely a resource but the foundation of national existence. As far back as King Hezekiah during the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem, it was recognized that the battle for the sources was more decisive than any military superiority—whoever controls the water controls survival.

By deliberately targeting civilian desalination infrastructure, Iran is reviving the ancient “strategy of thirst.” From a biblical perspective, the drying up of sources has always been a harbinger of the collapse of social and military order.
