Israel this week is receiving major support from the international community as cyber security officials from large corporations and government agencies around the world arrive to take part in the annual Cybertech Security Conference.

The event is taking place starting Tuesday at the Israel Trade Fairs & Convention Center in Tel Aviv.

The conference is a showcase for the Israeli cyber defense industry, and has this year attracted delegations from China, Japan, the United States, Mexico, Singapore, Italy, France, Finland, England and others.

Participants of note include the vice president of payment processing giant Alipay, the head of IBM’s Security Services Division (Kristin Lovejoy), Eugene Kaspersky of Kaspersky Lab, as well as the directors of cyber security for the UN, Coca-Cola, Boeing, AT&T, Sears and more.

Among the honored guests from foreign governments is Dr. Douglas Maughan (pictured), director of the Cyber Security Division of America’s Department of Homeland Security. Maughan and his division are responsible for handling cyber threats not only against the US government, but also those targeting the public sector.

Prior to his current appointment, Maughan was a program manager at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and a senior computer scientist for the National Security Agency.

He was scheduled to participate in a panel discussion on the need for greater cooperation between nations in the field cyber security.

Commenting on the event and its “star-studded” guest list, the head of Israel’s National Cyber Bureau, Dr. Eviatar Matania, said: “Israel is a world leader in cyber innovation, and provides a breeding ground for breakthrough, world-class cyber security solutions.”
