In Germany, France, Italy, Poland and even Spain, the right was the big winner, as many Europeans voted for right-wing parties due to the immigration crisis on the continent. Should Israel and the Jewish communities in Europe be afraid of this, or will right-wing parties in the EU be more understanding of Israel’s Middle East policy and the war against Hamas? To what extent can the European right-wing parties’ relations with Russia disrupt relations with Israel?

In Israel, it is believed that “the next European Parliament will be more pro-Israel.” However, there is no consensus as to whether this is a dangerous shift to the right by far-right parties or only right-wing parties. In the left-wing Israeli media, there is more talk of radical right-wing parties in Europe, while right-wing religious networks and media talk more about normative right-wing parties. It should not be forgotten that Israel has also moved further and further to the right over the past decade, so there is a kind of sympathy with its right-wing colleagues in European countries.     I noticed long ago that right and left wing in politics, is not the same in Europe, as in Israel where right wing is more religious, and left wing more atheistic. However over the last decade the politics in Europe seem to be more in line with Israel, with left wing parties becoming more anti Christian as well as antisemitic.
