To be completely honest, this year, I haven’t spent a single minute thinking about flying abroad. Not because of the security situation or the flight cancellations. Simply because I can’t afford it. Period.

The already strained financial situation is compounded by another hurdle: Flight prices abroad have skyrocketed this summer. The reason? Many international airlines have reduced or completely suspended their services to Israel—first due to repeated Houthi missile attacks that intermittently disrupt Ben Gurion Airport, causing short-term operational halts, and then due to the 12-day war with Iran, which completely paralyzed air traffic to and from Israel and drove away the last remaining foreign airlines. Now, the supply of flights is scarce, demand is high—and that makes even short trips abroad unaffordable for many.

Constant burden
