Newly-revealed documents read like a screenplay for a geopolitical nightmare. During the war in the Gaza Strip, Tehran forged plans to flood Hamas with weapons on a biblical scale. Under the code name “Tufan,” the flood, a new wave legitimized by Allah was to emerge, overwhelming Israel’s cities. It is further shocking proof of how closely religious symbolism and military strategy are intertwined in the Iranian-Palestinian alliance. Behind every rifle, every mortar shell, every elite unit lies not only a military calculation but also a mythical quest to sweep Israel away in an apocalyptic flood. I am always amazed that the West barely looks into the spiritual-theological backgrounds of Islamist hostility and thus overlooks the decisive ideological catalyst in the war against Israel.
