Anyone who followed the emergency session at the UN Security Council was astonished by the unprecedented solidarity Qatar enjoyed from the international community—while Israel faced equally unprecedented condemnations. The international community could not understand how Israel dared to attack Qatar—a country regarded by the world as the “Switzerland of the Middle East,” a state that has mediated in a series of international conflicts and achieved successes in resolving crises in Africa, Asia, and even in securing the release of hostages from Gaza.
