Israeli security sources, who have been monitoring public sentiment in the Arab world since the start of the Israeli-American airstrikes in Iran, describe a deeply ambivalent attitude. On one hand, there is noticeable relief in many parts of the region over Iran’s military weakening. On the other hand, concerns are simultaneously growing about the consequences of a possible geopolitical upheaval in the Middle East, which could bring new power shifts and additional instability.
According to these sources, reactions in the Arab public and media are shaped by complex, sometimes contradictory feelings. On one side, there are voices openly welcoming the death of Iran’s leader Ali Khamenei and the weakening of the Shiite “Axis of Resistance.” Over decades, Iran has systematically expanded its influence in several Arab states: in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen.
