The Lebanese newspaper Nidaa Al-Watan, whose name means “Call of the Nation,” is one of the sharpest anti-Hezbollah and anti-Iranian media platforms in Lebanon. It follows a sovereignist, pro-Western line and has openly attacked Iran’s influence and Hezbollah’s role for years. Rami Naim himself is considered one of the loudest journalistic opponents of Hezbollah in the country, and his direct attacks regularly cause political tremors in Beirut.
That is precisely why this interview is so remarkable. It shows that criticism of Hezbollah is no longer coming only from Israel or the West, but increasingly from within Lebanon itself. Speaking to Naim, the fleeing Hezbollah fighter paints a bleak picture of total despair: gunmen hiding in forests, sleeping under trees without phones, having food thrown to them from passing cars, and simply waiting for death. For many Lebanese, this image has now become a symbol of Hezbollah’s moral and military collapse.
