In the clip, a man from the city of Basra states that Iraqis now “completely identify with Israel, and may the Philistizi people be cursed with an eternal curse.” The use of the derogatory term Philistizi (a combination of the Arabic words for Palestinian and rear-end) to call out the Palestinians is surprisingly contemptuous, but no less shocking than the sudden affinity for the Jewish state.
N or is this video an isolated case. In July, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesperson to the Arab media reported that his department had received several social media messages from Iraqis expressing support for Israel. And this even as Palestinians were making a big show of stripping the Jewish state of what little sovereignty it exercised over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
The spokesman, Ofir Gendelman, posted screenshots of these messages of solidarity. Some Iraqis related that they “support the State of Israel—the chosen and the victorious people,” while others condemned the Palestinians for their use of terrorism.
