Jason Greenblatt, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, reiterated last week that the conflicts that plague the region can only truly be solved once everyone stops trying to rewrite history, and begins engaging with the truth.
In particular, he called on the Palestinians and their supporters to stop referring to Jewish communities founded (and in many cases reestablished after thousands of years) in the ancient biblical Jewish heartland of Judea-Samaria as “settlements,” as though they were illegitimate colonies that had no business being situated there.
Greenblatt also criticized the routine use of vague terms like “international law” that are molded to fit one side or another’s particular agenda, with little or no regard for actual laws or precedents.
