The conundrum of Arab-Israeli Knesset members

The times we live in are crazy, some say pivotal – perhaps times of the coming of the Messiah, or perhaps the war of Gog and Magog. The recent normalization of relations with the Emirates and then with Bahrain has changed the rules of the game in the region.

The winners so far are Israel and countries in the Persian Gulf. The losers are the Palestinian Authority, Turkey, Qatar and Iran.

But guess what? It turns out that apart from the external opponents, there are also opponents to the new peace inside of Israel. Arab-Israeli Knesset members who are supposed to look after the interests of the state and Arab-Israeli (see below) citizens, all voted as one against the UAE and Bahrain deals.

This strange vote will not soon be forgotten. It reminds me of another event a few years back: In 2016, the Arab-Israeli Knesset members and their leader, MK Ayman Odeh, refused to attend the funeral of the Israeli president who cared most about the interests of the Arab-Israeli citizens – Shimon Peres.
