The Dutch singer Lenny Kuhr, who won the Eurovision Song Contest for the Netherlands in 1969, landed at Ben Gurion Airport on Monday afternoon together with her husband Robert and arrived in Israel as a new immigrant. Representatives of the Israeli Ministry of Immigration and Integration, which had accompanied her immigration process, welcomed her at the airport and supported her in her first steps in the country.
Kuhr, who is among the most well-known voices in the Dutch music scene, had already announced her decision to move to Israel earlier this year. Her children were already living in Israel. In interviews, she explained that in addition to the desire to be closer to her family, antisemitism and the atmosphere towards Jews in the Netherlands had also influenced her decision.
Upon her arrival in Israel, Kuhr said: “I am very excited to be here. I have visited Israel many times, and here I feel at home. The situation in Europe is difficult. As a singer, I experience performances being cancelled, and I even receive death threats. I want to live in a country that I love, and I very much look forward to improving my Hebrew and living here together with my husband and near my daughter, who has already immigrated to Israel.”
Dganit Sanker-Langa, Director General of the Ministry of Immigration and Integration, stated: “We welcome Lenny today with a warm embrace and welcome her into the family of new immigrants in Israel. After captivating audiences on stages for many years, she is beginning a new chapter here, close to her family. The Ministry of Immigration and Integration will continue to accompany her to help her settle in and ensure that she feels at home. Lenny, welcome to Israel!”
