Some Hamas leaders have come to the conclusion that direct negotiations with Israel instead of relying on outside mediation would be better for Hamas. At the same time, Hamas leaders indicated that they would be willing to renew ties with the Assad regime in Syria.
This shows that there is no sincere intention by the Hamas leadership to change its positions regarding the conflict with Israel.
Rather the Sunni Islamist group seeks to secure foreign financial aid in order to rebuild Gaza.
It comes therefore as no surprise that Hamas leaders pointed to the fact that the Americans negotiated directly with the Taliban in Afghanistan about the withdrawal of US troops from the war-torn country.
They said that the negotiations between the US and the Taliban took place without shaking hands or hugs, so it was purely meant to get rid of the US army.
Israel has already indicated that there will be a change in the attitudes towards Hamas...
