IDF Spokesman to Gaza: Terror Will Get You Nowhere
In Arabic-language video clip posted to Facebook, IDF spokesman reminds Gaza residents that violence has only made life worse
The IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, Avichay Adraee, published a video on his Facebook page warning Gazans that their violence and terror achieve nothing and only make their lives more miserable by the day.
The post comes a day before the violent protest marches expected for Wednesday’s Nakba Day, what Palestinians refer to as their “catastrophe” that occurred on the day that Israel became a nation in 1948.
“Residents of Gaza, the supreme committee of the anarchy marches (Hamas) are calling on you to participate in the violent disturbances on the occasion of what they call ‘Nakba Day,’” explained Adraee in Arabic. “In honor of the occasion, let’s look at the ‘achievements’ of the violent anarchy marches: Hundreds of dead-for nothing. Thousands wounded-for nothing. Lack of hope-for nothing. Instability, economic crisis, an atmosphere of terror and violence-for nothing. Reduced fishing space, closing of crossings-all for nothing,” he added.
“The violent riots have also served as a cover for terrorist acts, such as the sniper attacks that have led to rounds of violence that have worsened your situation,” Adraee continued. “When violence and terrorism disappeared, you all felt it. The electricity improved. The border crossings opened. The fishing area has reached an unprecedented peak. There is also a discussion in your media outlets about various projects that come to benefit you. Now, which of you still thinks these violent demonstrations are helpful? I tell you that they are all for nothing.”
Adraee cautioned that the situation would only worsen for Gazans: “Terror is hurting you and sending you backwards. Ramadan should be a month of peace, love and security. I hope that your Iftar (break-fast) meals will be full of blessing and good. For your safety, stay away from the security fence. Damage to the security infrastructure or use of terror endanger you. Getting close to the fence endangers you for nothing.”
With close to 1.5 million followers on his Arabic-language Facebook page, Adraee has become famous throughout the Arab world. The IDF officer has been among Israel’s foremost Arabic-language spokesmen for over 20 years.
