While most of Israel was busy celebrating its 70th birthday, the Save a Child’s Heart Foundation was bringing five-year-old Hannah from Myanmar to the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon.

Her father had previously asked for help on Facebook: “Please save my daughter!” Israeli diplomats spotted the post and immediately took action, gathering donations and flying Hannah to the Jewish state.

Save a Child’s Heart is an Israeli organization that exists to help children with heart disease in developing countries, regardless of race or religion. To date, the organization has enabled more than 4,700 children from 56 countries to have life-saving heart surgery at the hands of Israel’s finest doctors.

For Hannah, a simple Facebook post by her father was all it took: “Only an operation can save her life. But such a complicated operation can not be performed in Myanmar.” The Israel Embassy in Myanmar knew it couldn’t stand by and let Hannah die. Generous donors...
