Perceptions of reality are often very different depending on where you live and who’s controlling the media that informs you.
For instance, while all indicators from our local media suggest that Israel’s position in the Middle East has never been stronger, those who live under Hamas rule believe the Jewish state has never been more weak.
That’s the kind of discrepancy that can and does lead to tragic and avoidable violence that ultimately only hurts those who couldn’t or refused to accept reality as it is.
Just about every Israel-Gaza war over the past decade falls under that category. And the coastal enclave’s terrorist overlords look poised to poke the Israeli bear yet again in the near future.
This past weekend, Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal insisted in public remarks that the Palestinians must not allow themselves to be sidelined and wait on diplomatic developments to achieve their nationalistic goals.
Mashaal noted that America has refocused much of its attention on Russia and China, providing a window for the Palestinians and their allies to act against Israel. He also suggested that the more recent Lebanon and Gaza wars proved the mighty Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are not invincible, and can be effectively challenged even by smaller militant groups like Hamas.
Most importantly, Mashaal pointed to the continued rise of Western progressive liberal society against Israel, as manifest in movements like BDS and the public positions of politicians like US representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib.
