The IDF confirmed in a statement on Monday morning that “security forces are now fighting terror throughout Jenin in a large-scale operation” and are attacking the “terrorist infrastructure.”
“In the fight against terrorism in Judea and Samaria, the security forces have attacked a facility serving as the joint headquarters of the Jenin refugee camp factions and the ‘Jenin Battalion’,” the statement said.

The statement did not specify whether the joint headquarters was attacked by land or air. According to the first Palestinian media reports, the joint headquarters in the refugee camp administered by the United Nations had been attacked by drones. According to these reports, three Palestinians were also killed.
Over the past two years, Jenin has become a major hub of terrorism and an Iranian stronghold close to Israeli population centers. Most of the terror attacks against Israelis originated from Jenin.

With Palestinian terror mounting in northern Samaria, a full-scale anti-terrorist operation was expected by Israelis and Palestinians alike. Since the beginning of 2023, 24 Israelis have been killed in terrorist attacks. The Palestinian Authority has little influence in northern Samaria.

In mid-June, the first shot was fired from Jenin after an unusually large explosive device was buried under a road, injuring seven soldiers. The IDF then targeted and killed three terrorists in Samaria with a drone from the air – a tactic not used in Judea and Samaria for 20 years.
Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant commented on the night operation in Jenin:
“In the past few hours, our security forces have been operating against terrorist hotspots in the city of Jenin.
“In the face of terrorism, we will be proactive and decisive. Anyone who harms the citizens of Israel will pay a heavy price.
“We are closely monitoring the actions of our enemies, and Israel’s defense apparatus is prepared for any scenario.
“I salute the IDF and ISA for their determination and operations.”

At the moment there are no reactions in the Gaza Strip to the Israeli army’s operation in Jenin. However, security experts are not ruling out a possible Hamas response, including launching rockets at Israel.
