
The modern state of Israel is in many respects comparable to the historical Israel of the Bible, which was founded as a nation state for the first time under King Saul.
The Bible describes how King Saul, a member of the Tribe of Benjamin, ordered three coronation ceremonies during his time in office. Similarly, the head of Israel’s government, Benjamin Netanyahu, has already been elected prime minister three times. If we read the Books of Samuel we can see clear parallels between the challenges and roles of Israel in biblical times and today. There were three main challenges that King Saul had to confront, and these are also once again creating problems for Israel in the Middle East of today.
