
Jerusalem of Gold is Israel’s most popular song of all time. Written by Naomi Shemer just weeks before Jerusalem’s reunification in 1967, the song – Yerushalayim Shel Zahav in Hebrew – was performed across the country by the young Shuli Natan, who was a soldier at the time. The song quickly became a hit, not only in Israel, but around the world. On the occasion of Jerusalem’s jubilee celebration, we were honored to have Shuli Natan, who is now 70-years-old, perform Jerusalem of Gold at our editorial offices. In her subsequent conversation with Editor-in-Chief Aviel Schneider, Shuli told us more about the song that would tie her legacy to the fate of the Holy City.
