Like so many, climate change preoccupies Minister of Environmental Protection Tamar Zandberg of the extreme-Left Meretz party. And like so many, she is trying to convince us that the climate crisis is a fact that has nothing to do with either left-wing or right-wing ideology. But we should know, for a fact, that this field of science is deeply influenced by ideology. We should know because a leading voice that rings the climate crisis alarm bells, Naomi Klein, has said so explicitly time and again.

In her 2014 bestseller This Changes Everything, Klein wrote that, among other things, climate change “could become a galvanizing force for humanity, leaving us all not just safer from extreme weather, but with societies that are safer and fairer in all kinds of other ways as well.” Those “other ways” in which Klein believes the climate crisis could and should improve society include “open borders to migrants whose displacement is linked to climate impacts; to finally respect Indigenous land rights—all of which would help to end grotesque levels of...
