The definition of insanity is when you keep repeating the same action over and over again, compulsively, obsessively, while thinking that somehow you will get a different result.
That is what UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon said about Israeli leaders this week during his brief visit to the country. “You must stop repeating the same platitudes and expecting a different result. It is maddening,” he blustered during a speech to dignitaries at Tel Aviv University.
Israelis left scratching their heads, wondering, “Who’s insane? Me, you, the UN or Moon?”
Yair Lapid, head of the centrist Yesh Atid (There is a Future) party, put forth simple, straightforward questions to Moon’s UN:
“Why have you condemned Israel 67 times over the past 10 years in the UN Human Rights Counsel, while during the same period, all the nations of the world (all of them!), you condemned just 61 times?”
Sounds like the UN is obsessively compulsive against Israel.
“Can you tell me why the UN World Health Organization chose to condemn Israel’s ‘occupation’ of the Golan Heights, instead of discussing ways of finding cures and vaccinations for the ongoing epidemics around the world? Never mind that the Golan is not ‘occupied,’ just a few hundred meters from the border, in Syria, children, women and elderly are being slaughtered, and you remain silent?”
That’s plain insane.
“Why does a child with Palestinian grandparents, who was born in an upper-echelon, exclusive neighborhood in Paris receive compensation and refugee rights, while a child whose [Jewish] grandparents were persecuted and chased out of Morocco, Egypt and Libya receive no status or rights?”
Michael Oren, Knesset Member and former Israeli Ambassador to the US, also pointed out the insanity of Moon’s UN in a personal letter:
“Dear Mr. Secretary-General,
We have lost confidence in the UN because:
– The UNESCO resolution on Jerusalem that denied any Jewish connection to the Temple Mount holy site, while recognizing the Muslim holy site. The Brazilian foreign ministry called this “an error which makes the text partial and unbalanced.”
– The UN condemns Israel, a country with free speech, free elections and minority rights more often than all the world’s mass murdering dictatorships combined. In 2007, you said you were “disappointed” by the UNHRC singling out of Israel. Nine years later that exact same bias is still present. There has been no progress.
– UN schools in Gaza have been repeatedly used by Hamas to store weapons. You yourself said this was “turning schools into potential military targets.”
– Hamas rockets have caused three wars during your tenure. Hamas continues to reject peace and build rockets and tunnels to attack Israel. Despite your admission that Hamas-Fatah reconciliation is “critical” and peace cannot happen without “a single legitimate Palestinian authority,” the UN sits idly by and this “critical” step to achieving peace remains elusive in the face of the Palestinian leadership’s internal squabbles.”
Moon’s hypocrisy insults our intelligence.
During his visit, the darker side of Moon found time to reflect on the PLO’s suffering under “occupation,” blamed Israeli “violence,” all the while ignoring ongoing Palestinian and radical Islamic terror.
“I stand with the people of Gaza to say that the United Nations will always be with you,” he stated. “They are enduring enormously difficult living conditions. The closure of Gaza suffocates its people, stifles its economy and impedes reconstruction efforts. It is a collective punishment for which there must be accountability.”
The UN chief continued: “I am aware that many Palestinians question the feasibility of reaching a just and lasting peace with Israel. They hear talk of peace, but they see violence. They still live a life of checkpoints, permits, blockades, demolitions and profound economic hardship.”
A lunatic is someone affected with periodic insanity, dependent on the changes of the Moon.
