Jerusalem’s police arrested on Sunday morning the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) governor of the Jerusalem District, Adnan Gheith, the 17th time he was arrested since he was appointed to this post more than a year ago.

The arrest reveals the PA’s efforts to continue to establish itself in eastern Jerusalem, and TPS has learned that Fatah and the PA are increasing their activities in areas within full Israeli jurisdiction.

A few weeks ago, the Israeli defense establishment restricted Gheith’s movements and activities. He works from his offices in the Aram neighborhood north of Jerusalem and serves as a senior official in the PA even though he is a resident of Jerusalem with an Israeli ID card.
