After months of political stagnation and countless failed talks about the release of our hostages, the moment has come to act or fail definitively. Our attempts to end this bloody chapter in the Gaza drama have been, to put it mildly, a failure. We have failed tactically, hesitated strategically, and Hamas has shrewdly exploited our weakness. The reasons are manifold, but responsibility lies with all actors on our side—from parts of the media that amplify Hamas narratives by constantly regurgitating them, to so-called “intellectuals” who, in moral complacency, give the enemy a platform, to opposition politicians for whom ousting Netanyahu seems more important than defeating terror. Even the well-intentioned protests for the hostages, however justified, are interpreted by Hamas as a sign of Israel’s vulnerability to blackmail.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll repeat it with utmost clarity: “The Messiah could come and go, and we still wouldn’t have the hostages back.” Because Hamas will never voluntarily abandon its maximalist demands.
