
How many times can they chant “the occupation” before they realize it’s nothing more than a smokescreen? Perhaps they don’t want to see the truth.
The Israeli-Arab conflict didn’t begin with the “occupation” of the so-called “West Bank” by the Jewish state. But to listen to Israel’s detractors, and more shockingly to some Israelis themselves, you’d think it had.
This was highlighted once again by a controversial annual Memorial Day event attended by a fringe minority of Israelis (and a minuscule number of Palestinians) that commemorates the fallen on both sides as equal victims in a conflict that must be ended at all costs.
Except they don’t really advocate ending the conflict at all costs. Organized by the left-wing movement Combatants for Peace, the event sends a clear message: Israel and its “occupation” are to blame for the conflict, and the Palestinians are naught but innocent victims.
In other words, ending the conflict is entirely in Israel’s hands.
