“This is what happens when you allow hate speech”

Israeli leaders continue to take Australia’s government to task for not only failing to combat antisemitism, but inadvertently encouraging it with their hostility toward Israel.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel joined the chorus of Israeli officials blaming Australia’s current government for the Hanukkah party massacre at Bondi Beach in Sydney.

Haskel noted that just two days after the savage Oct. 7 Hamas invasion of Israel, even before Israel had launched its retaliatory military operations, people marched outside the Sydney Opera House calling to “Gas the Jews” and “globalize the intifada” – and the Australian government did nothing.

“No one was arrested, no one was prosecuted, no one paid a price for that,” she stressed. “You are basically giving an excuse or backing to some of the most violent lies that are being spread … [which] inflates the hatred and violence that is being committed against Jews.”

Haskel lived for six years in Australia, and said that during her time there it was one of the safest places in the world for Jews. But sadly, that is no longer true.
