As the UN Security Council votes on a new UN Secretary General, a look at new candidate Ivonne A-Baki, frontrunner Rebeca Grynspan, and the candidates considered problematic from an Israeli perspective.

The global body’s focus is “more about bashing Israel, less about concrete efforts, practical solutions and confronting the bad guys,” the Israeli envoy told JNS.

“Israel will do everything in our power to disarm Hamas,” Danny Danon said during a UN Security Council debate. “The question is, when will you?”

Describing the move as “unprecedented and highly controversial,” Israel’s Foreign Ministry said it ties “the hands of his successor” and degrades the UN’s “rules-based order.”

“This is not a case of a few bad apples,” Yoni Tobin, senior policy analyst at JINSA, told JNS. “It’s a case of a rotten tree.”

“There’s the great myth of peaceful coexistence of Jews in the Arab countries, which is a staple of Palestinian propaganda,” Lyn Julius, cofounder of a group focused on Jews of the Middle East and North Africa, told JNS.

“You traded your integrity, your credibility, your reputation for a few more months on a UN salary,” Danny Danon told Pramila Patten.
