MembersIs Israel a Living Contradiction?

While the people of Israel are heralds, pioneers and trailblazers in technology and science, they have also always pointed the way to God

One can get the impression that Israel’s a living contradiction: On the one hand, it has developed into an ultra-modern country, a startup nation where new ideas and technologies flourish and go on to bless all the peoples of the world. Of the 900 people who have received Nobel Prizes since 1901, almost one in four has been Jewish. In other words, only 0.2 percent of the world’s population are Jews, but 23 percent of Nobel Prize winners are Jewish.

But while the people of Israel are pioneers and trailblazers in technology and science, the nation’s gaze remains on God. More than any other people group on earth, Israel is traditionally religious. Over 75 percent of the Jewish population believes in God. Even if not everyone practices this faith in the same way, one can rightly say that God is a major factor in the life of the State of Israel. For instance, the overriding dedication to Jerusalem as the nation’s undivided capital is based entirely on biblical promises.

Many view technology and science as antithetical to God and biblical faith....
