“Normative moral theory teaches that fraternal hatred and agitation do not just harm their victims but actually endanger in equal measure those who generate the hatred. Anyone who raves with negative energy against his neighbor will be eaten away from the inside and is plunging himself into self-destruction,” warns Rabbi Motti Karpel.
In his commentary Karpel criticized the behavior of the Opposition in voting against the Citizenship Law (Family Reunification Law). The Likud party, as well as the right-wing and Orthodox parties in the Knesset, voted for the first time against their own right-wing ideology, and thus, in practical terms, are supporting their Arab rivals in Knesset, who have always voted against the usual extension of the law. Even the national-religious fanatics, Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir, joined in what can be described as fraternal hatred. The Bennett government must be brought down, even if that means voting against their own religious and political beliefs.
