Trump Wants US Jews to Be Loyal to Israel

He’s turned the tables on those who long accused American Jews of dual-loyalty

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday mentioned Jews and loyalty in the same sentence, but the remark was presented somewhat deceptively by the mainstream media.

For decades, antagonists have accused the Jews of dual-loyalty at best, and at worst of being an Israel-aligned fifth column. This long-standing effort to spur antisemitic sentiment echoes the hateful charges leveled against Jews through centuries of European history.

It would seem that the mainstream media is hoping that viewers and readers will subconsciously associate Trump’s remark with such anti-Jewish accusations. Because most reports didn’t bother to properly explain the context of the president’s words.

When Trump told reporters during an Oval Office meeting that “Jewish people who would vote for a Democrat…[demonstrate] either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty,” it was in the context of today’s Democratic Party defending it’s openly anti-Israel members of Congress.

Most American Jews still vote Democrat, despite the fact that over the past year the party has stood firmly behind freshman representatives Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, if not their repeated verbal attacks on the Jewish state.

The Democratic “old guard” might still be ostensibly “pro-Israel,” but the up-and-coming progressive wing is moving the party in the other direction.

Trump thinks that it will become increasingly difficult to claim loyalty to Israel, while also voting for a party that harbors public figures who a decade ago would’ve been denounced as antisemites.

And that’s the real story–that Trump has broken the mold, that he has totally turned the tables on those accusing Jews of dual-loyalty by actually encouraging American Jews to be loyal to Israel.
