Today preferring sterile “democracy” to a Jewish-Democratic state, this is hardly the Left of yesteryear
The theme of the annual rally marking the assassination of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin that took place this week was the cliché “Yes to peace. No to violence.”
The keynote speaker at the event, which takes place at the same Tel Aviv square where Rabin was shot 24 years ago, was not the current head of the late-Prime Minister’s Labor Party, Amir Peretz, but rather the head of the new “Blue and White” faction, Benny Gantz.

This seemingly odd choice, which effectively sweeps Rabin’s own party under the rug, is understandable only if the Left believes that Gantz is better suited than Peretz to represent this political camp. That, in turn, exposes Blue and White for what it really is, a left-wing party, rather than a center-right faction.
That in itself would not be alarming if it wasn’t for the fact that today’s Left is not...
