The meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump ended without a public decision, but a clear picture emerges from the unusual briefing by a high-ranking Israeli government official: Israel is awaiting Trump’s decision on the next step toward Iran – a new agreement, continued economic pressure, or a resumption of military attacks. It is no secret in Jerusalem that, from Israel’s perspective, the military option remains on the table.
In Israel, Trump’s remarks about the severe consequences for Iran should the regime choose a path of confrontation were received with satisfaction. They are understood as a significant signal to Tehran. Despite the optimistic atmosphere after the meeting, however, no decision has yet been reached. At the same time, talks between the US and Iran continue. According to a regional representative, there is also a direct channel of communication between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
