“Amazon is now the world’s largest provider of original Nazi propaganda. Hitler and Goebbles would be grateful”

Dozens of Nazi propaganda videos are available for purchase on Amazon’s video platform. This was revealed by the organization “Americans Against Antisemitism,” headed by Dov Hikind, a former New York City Councilman and the son of Holocaust survivors.

The organization was shocked to discover that Amazon was offering for sale both in a hard copy and streaming over 30 Nazi propaganda films in their entirety without editing and without editorial comment. Among other things, these are films that glorify Hitler and Nazism, such as Jud Süß (The Eternal Jew), The Rothschilds and Triumph of the Will, the film by the German director Lenny Riefenstahl that was funded by Hitler, as well as Riefenstahl’s documentary Olympia, chronicling the Berlin Olympics.

“This is far beyond unacceptable,” said Dov Hikind. “Amazon should be ashamed of itself for allowing so much hate to flow through its platform. There’s no excuse for that. I don’t care what they say. Making a financial profit from these hate movies. We expect Amazon to remove them.”

Unfortunately, this is not the first case in which Amazon profits from selling Nazi-related products, Hikind said. Following criticism, Amazon stopped selling Hitler’s Mein Kampf except in its edition containing critical comments. “Such hate materials should not be presented to the public in the original version without any context. Why should Amazon make money off of Nazis? My parents went to the concentration and extermination camps, and to think that now in our time we have a huge American company that spreads Nazi propaganda all over the world? Anyone can buy these movies,” he added.

“How is it possible that more than 30 of the most popular Nazi propaganda titles produced between 1933 and 1945 have found their way to one of the world’s largest retail platforms in 2021? Does Amazon think that Mein Kampf without critical comment is harmful but not The Eternal Jew and The Rothschilds and other films? This is completely unforgivable and needs to be fixed immediately with the removal of these vile titles from Amazon platforms. Otherwise, it appears that Amazon is now the world’s largest provider of original Nazi propaganda films – something Hitler and Goebbles would have been grateful for.”

Amazon did not respond to the US organization’s request despite repeated requests, but did remove the film Triumph of the Will from its platform.

Americans Against Antisemitism welcomed what they called Amazon’s “first step,” and called for all of the films to be removed.
