There have been signs in recent weeks that the Palestinian Authority led by Mahmoud Abbas is becoming increasingly radical. The international community and the foreign media, however, have shown little interest in this development. The same is said about the Israeli government that is accused by Palestinian observers of withholding promised goodwill gestures to the Palestinian Authority.
The Central Council of the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) decided last Wednesday to suspend its recognition of the State of Israel.
The Central Council (PCC) said in a statement that Israel is expected to recognize the existence of the “State of Palestine” before the Palestinian Authority (PA) returns to the provisions of the Oslo Accords in this regard.
The council also made it clear that in its vision, the “State of Palestine” would include all of the territories Israel captured from Jordan in 1967; thus all of Judea, Samaria, and what is termed East Jerusalem (Arab Jerusalem).
