“I have seen some statements that make me sick,” he wrote. “What is all this about a moral army and purity of arms? Last time I checked, countries with serious armies don’t have such delirium. Arms were never pure. They’re designed to kill the enemy, and the army’s sole purpose is to prepare for war and annihilate that enemy. Such wavering would cause any army to fail.”
